Joseph VanBuren is the man behind Sykophunk Productions and all of its artists. Here, his instrumental music will be showcased. Placing more emphasis on mood and imagery than genre, JVB's music is diverse and multi-dimensional, mostly built around atmosphere and ambience but often incorporating electronic elements and banging beats.
Until recently, JVB recorded instrumental music under the name Dostah Shilailee. In early 2009, as Dostah, JVB entered his Stephen Colbert remix "Make You Grind" in an open session on the collaboration website indabamusic.com. When Colbert interviewed Indaba founder Dan Zaccagnino, they chose JVB's remix to play on the show.
JVB's biggest project, Dark Domain, is a horror-inspired collection of gothic and industrial instrumentals - the music to a fictional future world that he created. Combining equal parts of Danny Elfman and Nine Inch Nails, JVB composes the soundtrack to a post-apacalyptic world of monsters and madness. The soundtrack and fiction series are both works in progress.
JVB has also worked on a number of other collaborations and remixes, with more already in progress. His near future plans also include continued work on the Dark Domain project and licensing music from his latest collection Moods: volume one for placement in TV, films, and other media. He is also slated to be Music Coordinator for the upcoming indie film Sweat, going into production summer 2010.
